The Kern County Board of Supervisors approved a $1,000,000 grant to Clinica Sierra Vista through the Fentanyl Misuse and Overdose Prevention Taskforce, started by Assemblywoman Dr. Jasmeet Baines to prevent more overdoses from happening in Kern County.

This comes from a $10.5 million grant given to the task force to split between law enforcement agencies and medical care providers to combat the fentanyl crisis. 

Samantha Loya Cerrata, the mother of Delilah Love Loya, a 9-year-old girl battling cancer, says it's been a tough five years, but the help from the community makes the fight easier. 

Because of her experience, Loya Cerrata launched a foundation to support other families like her. 

A new granular activated carbon treatment system, now 80% complete, will filter 1,2,3-Trichloropropane out of the Wasco Prison water supply.

Following the original story that covered the prison's failure to comply with EPA water quality mandates, the prison invited me to the property to see progress on construction. 

Since May 2018, water in the Wasco State Prison has tested positive for 1, 2, 3- Trichloropropane, a carcinogen, according to the California Environmental Protection Agency.

After an inmate reached out about the situation, I investigated the concerns and broke down the timeline.

Edward Robinson was homeless for a month in Michigan after his family lost their home. 

He remembers what it felt like., so now, he's using his experience and education to help the homeless in Kern.

The mothers of Angel Berumen and Alejandro Vargas, two boys who were hit and killed in crashes while walking on Niles Street, attended the Heritage Park groundbreaking event. 

The county announced the construction of a mural to honor the lives of the two boys.
